Red Light Therapy Questions
Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate your cells. The mitochondria in your cells absorbs the energy from the light and uses it to create Adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is a form of energy that your cells can use. The heightened ATP levels then improve cellular activities such as repair, regeneration, along with the production of proteins and growth factors. It also leads to anti-inflammatory effects and can boost blood circulation, contributing to tissue repair and recovery.
Put simply: your cells can convert the energy from the light and use it to perform their jobs quicker and better. That’s why red light therapy can help with so many different conditions. It’s taking what your body is already doing at all times - healing and recovering - and it’s supercharging the process.
Whether your treatment will be permanent will depend entirely on what you’re using your Redpulse device for.
The results are permanent for wound healing, reducing appearance of scars, reducing pain and inflammation. But they’re temporary for many skin conditions or wrinkles. Your body replaces your skin approximately every two months, so if the problem begins to come back, you’ll need to resume treatment. Luckily, one of the big benefits of having your own Redpulse panel is that it’s always ready for you when you need it.
We recommend that you start with 10 minutes for targeted areas or for skin-related concerns. And longer sessions up to 20 minutes for broader uses or when seeking more systemic effects (like overall reduced inflammation or increased blood circulation).
Note that these are just starting points. Feel free to increase or decrease the amount depending on the results you get. Everyone responds differently so it might take a bit of experimentation to find what works best for you.
Yes! Red and near infrared light are turned into cellular energy, which is essential to restore, repair, and maintain our bodies at any age.
Kids and teens often spend a lot of time outside or on screens. Red light therapy can help offset the damage from the sun’s harmful UV rays, along with the negative effects of blue light from their screens. And just like with adults, it can help with general mood & well-being, skin conditions, and recovery.
Red light therapy is usually dose-dependent. For the most part, the more you use it, the more benefit the treatment provides.
We recommend starting with 5 - 10 minutes for targeted areas or for skin-related concerns. And longer sessions up to 20 minutes for broader uses or when seeking more systemic effects.
Note that these are just starting points. Feel free to adjust the amount depending on the results you get. Everyone responds differently.
Yes, red light therapy is safe for your eyes, and has even been shown to help certain eye conditions. But the lights are very bright, so we recommend looking away or using the protective goggles that come with every Redpulse device.
Yes, at a certain point, too much red light therapy can stress the cells, which is counterproductive when trying to see good results. We recommend limiting sessions to a maximum of 20 minutes per area per day, ideally sticking closer to 10 - 15 minutes.
Red light therapy has been shown to be safe for most people. However, there are a few cases where it makes sense to be more cautious, such as with photosensitivity, epilepsy, if you take medications that increase your sensitivity to light, or if you have a pacemaker. If unsure, consult a healthcare professional before starting red light therapy.
Red light and near-infrared light are two different wavelengths of light. Red light can penetrate into the layers of the skin for skincare benefits, while near-infrared light penetrates deeper tissues, helping with muscle and joint pain and providing overall health and wellness benefits.
Red light therapy provides a wide range of benefits, including:
- Boosted energy levels
- Enhanced skin texture and tone
- Restored skin radiance
- Reduced inflammation
- Reduced wrinkles & fine lines
- Improved mood and wellbeing
- Better sleep quality & duration
- Improved blood circulation
- Relieved joint & muscle pain
- Faster recovery
While some of the light can pass through clothing and makeup, we strongly recommend washing off makeup and treating the skin directly for the best results.
Red light therapy has been shown to be safe and is not associated with any side effects. Redpulse devices are also FDA Class II Registered and have received 7 other certifications to verify their safety. If you have specific concerns, consult a healthcare professional to ensure safety.
Usage frequency depends on the purpose. In general, 3 - 7 days a week is recommended. Less than 3 days may result in diminishing results between sessions, and more than 20 minutes per day may stress the cells. Aim for up to 20 minutes 3 - 7 days for the best results.
We recommend placing the device 6" - 18" away from the treatment area. The closer it is, the more energy penetrates your cells, so adjust the time accordingly. Experiment with different distances to find what works best for you.
The time to feel a difference depends on the purpose. For skincare, some notice a glow right away, but more dramatic results may take 6 weeks. For joint and muscle soreness, it varies. Overall health and wellness benefits may take a few weeks to become noticeable.

Product Questions
It’s simple! Just position your device 6” - 18” away from the treatment area (make sure to wash off any makeup or remove any clothing that’s covering the area). Turn on the light and enjoy the session.
Every Redpulse device also comes with a detailed manual that will tell you how to use the specific features that your model comes with - such as a timer and the different mode options.
The smaller tabletop units come with a convenient stand attached, which you can see in the product photos. If you’re looking for a stand for the larger devices, you can see the upgrade options at checkout.
Irradiance is basically the amount of power that your body receives from the light. It’s like measuring the intensity or strength of the light, telling you how much energy is getting to your skin and tissues. Higher irradiance means more effective therapy in a shorter time.
You’ll notice that Redpulse offers some of the highest irradiance levels on the market. That’s because we put a big emphasis on offering devices that will get maximum results in minimum time.
The beam angle is the angle at which the light comes from the LEDs. The wider the angle, the larger the coverage area. But it also means that the power of the light is spread over a larger area, losing its intensity and its benefit.
We believe that 30 - 60 degrees is the perfect balance between coverage and intensity. That’s why our ULTRA series lights come with a 30-degree beam angle and our ZENITH lights come with 60 degrees.
Not to worry! These are just the near-infrared LEDs, which are a wavelength that is outside the spectrum of visible light. Meaning that the human eye can’t see them. But while you might not be able to see them, you can rest assured that they’re still doing their job.
